About Me

Photography

I bought my first camera when I was 17. It was a Russian built Zenit-E, then regarded as an ideal entry-level SLR and introduction to photography. I then moved on to the Pentax line of SLR cameras, starting with a K1000.

I started taking photos of theatrical productions in the early 80s, having always had an interest in capturing people, characters and moods. I've also taken part in local theatre productions, both on and off stage.

Other subjects of interest include architecture, aviation and abstract forms.

I currently own ten cameras, having an inability to dispose of equipment I've grown attached to! However, only three of these are in use. I use my Canon IXUS 860IS for snapshots, a Nikon D40 dSLR for high-spec work; and an Olympus SP560 superzoom for specialist or intermediate use.

Web Development

I've been designing and running websites since 1997, when I launched my first personal website.

A year later I launched Discover Hertford Online, an information resource for my home town that has now been operating for over ten years and sees over 30,000 page views per month. The site is ranked no.1 on Google for the town and features a forum, blog and articles on local issues.

Sites in my portfolio include:

My principle skills in web development are use of HTML4, XHTML, CSS and ASP. I am also a strong believer in content and ease of navigation over highly designed sites that overly emphasise visual appeal.

More About Me

Born a baby-boomer, I spent six months in Paris before settling in Hertford and attending a local preparatory school. I rebelled at secondary school, played in bands, lost my way, found my way, questioned the establishment and learned that with a positive attitude you'll always land on your feet.
